Debate Over Religious Symbols, Political Violence in Lebanon

(MENAFN) According to reports, a commentary warns against religious discourse being used in ways that deepen tensions in the Middle East, arguing that the region has already been heavily damaged by the misuse of sacred language, biblical references, and faith-based narratives to justify violence, occupation, and hostility that harm human dignity.

From this perspective, it is emphasized that many people of conscience have repeatedly opposed the use of religious texts and Jewish historical memory to justify war, revenge, or violations of human rights. In this context, the slogans **"not in our name"** and the broader call of **"never again,"** not only for one group but for all humanity, are highlighted as moral appeals that should not be ignored. It is also stressed that no religion or scripture should be equated with the actions of governments, armed forces, or extremist movements.

The commentary further distinguishes between Judaism as a faith and Jewish communities on one hand, and political actions carried out under ideological frameworks such as Zionism on the other. It suggests that certain political expressions associated with such frameworks may, in specific historical and ideological contexts, contribute to practices viewed as marginalizing or humiliating toward non-Jewish communities, including long-established Christian populations in the region.

At the same time, it is argued that moral clarity requires careful differentiation between isolated violent acts carried out by individuals influenced by ideology or anger, and actions taken by uniformed military personnel operating within organized structures of power, especially when such actions are intentionally documented or shared as symbolic messages.
