Israeli Individuals Cross into Lebanon, Call for Settlement Expansion
Video footage circulated by a pro-settlement group showed far-right Israeli individuals inside southern Lebanese territory, where they declared, “Our activists are in southern Lebanon,” while also urging what they described as the “resumption of settlement” activities.
The incident came shortly after dozens of Israeli individuals affiliated with the so-called “Bashan Pioneers” movement reportedly entered the Syrian village of Hader. There, they were seen climbing a building and raising Israeli flags while Israeli forces were present in the area.
Following the incident in Syria, the Israeli army said it returned around 40 civilians who had crossed into Syrian territory and later handed them over to police authorities.
In a separate development, Israeli public broadcasting reported that some individuals also crossed into southern Lebanon, advancing several hundred meters beyond the border before being detained. According to the report, Israeli forces later took custody of them and transferred them to police.
The incidents come against the backdrop of advocacy by supporters of the so-called “Greater Israel” concept, which some Israeli figures—including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich—have been associated with. Proponents of the idea argue for territorial expansion beyond Israel’s current borders, including into areas of neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and the occupied Palestinian territories.
