Zionists Cross into Southern Lebanon, Calling for Settlement

(MENAFN) A group of Israeli Zionists reportedly crossed into southern Lebanon on Wednesday evening, calling for settlement activity inside Lebanese territory, according to reports. The incident is described as a rare cross-border entry occurring shortly after a similar event reported in Syria.

Footage shared by a pro-settlement group allegedly showed far-right Israeli individuals inside southern Lebanese areas, where they declared, “Our activists are in southern Lebanon,” and called for what they referred to as the “resumption of settlement.”

The development followed a separate incident earlier the same day in Syria, where a group identified with a pro-settlement movement entered a village and raised Israeli flags, reportedly in the presence of Israeli forces.

Israeli authorities later stated that civilians who had crossed into Syrian territory were returned and handed over to police. In a separate account, Israeli media reported that some individuals also crossed into southern Lebanon, advancing a short distance beyond the border before being detained and returned to authorities.

These events come amid broader political discussions in Israel involving fringe advocacy for territorial expansion into neighboring countries, an idea rejected by most of the international community and associated with extremist political positions.

Meanwhile, the wider regional situation remains highly volatile. Since early March, Lebanon has reported thousands of casualties and widespread displacement due to escalated military activity, according to official figures.

Although a US-mediated ceasefire was agreed in mid-April, reports indicate that violence and related incidents have continued despite the agreement, adding further strain to an already fragile security environment.
