Outrage Grows Over Photo of Israeli Soldier Damaging Statue in Lebanon
As stated by reports, the image—circulating widely on social media platform X and viewed millions of times—was confirmed as authentic by the Israeli military on Monday.
The statue, located near the village of Debl in southern Lebanon close to the Israeli border, was shown being destroyed in the widely shared image, prompting strong reactions from social media users, writers, and activists.
According to reports, some users condemned the act and called for accountability, describing the destruction as intentional and deeply offensive.
One user wrote: “I strongly condemn and protest. This is a very sad incident,” urging punishment for the soldier involved.
As stated by reports, others expressed anger and sadness, while some criticized the military’s handling of similar incidents involving religious sites.
Arab members of the Israeli parliament also reacted. Ayman Odeh mocked potential official explanations, while Ahmad Tibi said in a Facebook post that repeated incidents involving religious sites reflect a broader pattern of impunity affecting mosques, churches, and religious figures.
The incident has continued to fuel debate online amid broader tensions in the region.
